Arroyo clean-up day needs volunteers
The Simi Valley Neighborhood Councils are asking volunteers to help with the third annual Arroyo Clean-Up Day from 9 a.m. to noon Sat., May 21 at Tapo Canyon Road at the Arroyo, south of Royal Avenue. Participants will remove trash, garbage and debris from the arroyo that would otherwise make its way to the ocean.
Volunteers may sign in and park at The Shopper, 3987 Heritage Oak Court. Participants should wear work clothes, sturdy shoes or rubber boots and bring digging tools, gloves, sunscreen, hats and an adventurous attitude.
Release of liability waivers will be available. Children under age 18 must have a parent or legal guardian’s signature on a release of liability waiver to participate. The clean-up is fairly strenuous physical activity and it’s not recommended for the very young or the physically challenged.
In 2004, volunteers removed more than five tons of trash from the site. Volunteers have included teams from businesses, schools, civic organizations, churches, community groups and regular citizens.
For more information and waiver forms call Emily Habib, neighborhood council coordinator, at (805) 583-6756.
