On April 14, the Simi Valley Police Department’s Communication Center was honored with the California Public-Safety Radio Association’s (C.P.R.A.) Outstanding Performance Award for exceptional service during President Ronald Reagan’s funeral service. This award is given to communication centers that show dedication, service and professionalism during special events.

The award ceremony was held during the 17th annual C.P.R.A. Dispatchers Appreciation banquet at the Radisson Resort in Buena Park Chief Mark Layhew, Capt. Ken Tacke, Communication Manager Lynn Freeman and several dispatchers and senor dispatchers from the Communication Center were in attendance. The Center received a plaque from C.P.R.A. and a certificate from the State Assembly in recognition of its accomplishment.

Most members of the Communication Center had worked over 100 hours each during the president’s funeral and handled all of the communications for more than 100 officers and support staff working the event, in additional to handling all of the regular police dispatching and communications in the city.

The Simi Valley City Council issued a certificate of recognition to the Communication Center during National Telecommunications Week, April 10 to 16, to honor the city’s public safety dispatchers.
