Train crash hearing begins
Juan Manuel Alvarez is waiting to hear whether the Los Angeles County District Attorney can gather enough evidence to indict him on murder charges in connection with the Glendale train wreck that occurred on January 26.
Alvarez was charged with 11 counts of murder and one count of arson in connection with the wreck that killed four local residents. He is accused of parking his truck on the railroad tracks in an attempt to commit suicide.
James Tutino, an L.A. County sheriff’s deputy, Julia Bennet, an L.A. Fire Department secretary, and William Parent, 53, who lived in Canoga Park but spent most of his life in Simi Valley, died in the accident along with Scott McKeown, of Moorpark, a City of Glendale employee.
