Heritage Square in Oxnard is hosting an Open House Tea from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sat., April 2 for anyone interested in becoming a docent or volunteer for its tour program, special events, exhibits, historical research and visitor center.

Enrollment for the six-week docent training program will begin Sat., April 16. The course will offer lectures, slide shows and tour guide techniques. Volunteers will learn about early Oxnard history and architecture, work with the public, develop educational programs and make new friends.

Heritage Square features a collection of 1876-1912 houses, a church and winery replica in a picturesque Victorian garden setting. Guided tours are offered on Saturdays and by appointment to groups and schools. Special events such as concerts, weddings and holiday celebrations are scheduled throughout the year.

The Friends of Heritage Square is a volunteer organization that provides educational tours of historical buildings in downtown Oxnard that were once occupied by the city’s early pioneer families. They research local history, create historical exhibits and help interpret Oxnard’s early history. For more information call Fely Vallender at (805) 483-7960.
