Israeli ensemble will perform in Thousand Oaks
The Conejo Valley will be getting a taste of Israeli music when the King David String Ensemble comes to Temple Etz Chaim in Thousand Oaks at 7 p.m. this Sunday.
Anita Kamien, an Israeli-American, conducts the chamber ensemble that performs music ranging from Baroque to modern Israeli music. The ensemble consists of nine virtuoso string players from the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and a pianist.
The group has traveled internationally to countries including the United States, Chile, Equador, Italy, Denmark and Singapore to name a few. The performances have earned positive reviews from critics.
The King David String Ensemble’s Japanese tour in 1998 through 2000 was so well received in that country that CDs were produced of their live concerts. Kamien is an award-winning pianist as well as the group’s conductor, and often performs solos during the shows.
The event is co-sponsored by Temple Etz Chaim, Congregation B’nai Emet, Congregation Or Ami, The Jewish Life Center of Simi Valley, Temple Adat Elohim, the New West Symphony, Jewish Family of the Conejo Valley and West Valley and Temple Beth Haverim.
"The concert will be "an event for the whole Conejo Valley," said Myles Simpson, executive vice president of Temple Etz,
He said children are invited as well.
"It’s classical music. If they like that music, they’re certainly welcome to come," Simpson said.
Rabbi Gershon Johnson of Temple Beth Haverim agreed that this is an occasion for the whole community.
"This . . . is an opportunity for the community at large to hear one important example of the beautiful music that Israel brings to the world. Music is that rare occasion that can break through all the barriers that keep peoples apart," Gershon said. Tickets for the concert are $20. Reservations can be made by calling 497-6891, or tickets can be purchased at the door. Temple Etz Chaim is located at 1080 Janss Road in Thousand Oaks.
