Proud of the
Big Sisters
program
Big Brothers/ Big Sisters program
I am proud to say I know two American heroes, Larry Ross, my son’s former Big Brother from Ventura County Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and my son, Micah Garside White.
Larry’s influence on Micah changed a shy child who lacked self esteem into a young man who is proud to wear his country’s uniform. Larry was a constant source of support and encouragement for Micah in those vital teen years. While Larry is my son’s hero, Micah is my hero to volunteer to serve his country in these troubled times. I count myself lucky to know these two remarkable men.
Upon graduating high school, Micah was awarded the Arby’s Big Brothers/BigSisters scholarship to attend college. This scholarship allowed him to attend Harvey Mudd College to earn a degree in computer science. Micah chose to serve his country by enlisting in the U. S. Army early this year.
Micah Garside White’s story will be featured in a book, "Little Moments, Big Magic," which commemorates the centennial of the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program.
He will be standing tall in his uniform beside his friend and mentor, Larry Ross, at the book release in New York City on June 16. To buy the book, contact Lynne West at BigBrothers/BigSisters at (805) 644- 6792.
