Workshop helps students find career path
Ventura County middle and high school students and their parents are invited to attend a "Realizing the Dream" workshop, where the Youth Council of Ventura County and the Superintendent of Schools office have partnered to help each student determine a unique career path. The next workshop will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tues., May 25 at Moorpark College, 7075 Campus Road in Moorpark.
"One of the most important things a parent can do for their child is to help them prepare for their future," said Dr. Charles Weis, Ventura County superintendent and chair of the Youth Council. "These workshops are a great place to explore their career possibilities."
Joining students, parents, education/training providers and local workforce development agencies, the workshops provide information and assistance for youth and their parents on career planning, education, youth development career opportunities and how parents can guide their children through this process. Whether college is an option or not, students and parents will learn where to find the best jobs and will hear from community college, university, technical and apprenticeship experts.
The workshop will feature career and educational planning for students and parents, computerized career assessment, labor market information, youth employment resources, local educational and training representatives.
Attendees will also receive supplies, information and training on how to use and access all of the areas listed above. Refreshments will be provided and a raffle will be held.
"These students are the future of Ventura County," Weis said. "By investing in their futures, we are investing in our own."
