A fish tale
Anglers will compete for more than $5,000 in prize money during the ninth annual Cachuma Lake Nature Center Trout Derby on Sat. and Sun., April 24 and 25 at the lake, located in Santa Barbara County.
Prizes will be awarded to competitors of all ages. The angler who catches and registers the trout with the highest tag number during the derby will receive $3,000. For the longest trout caught in the tournament, $2,000 will be awarded.
Additional categories will offer from $25 to $100 in prize money. Merchandise prizes and gift certificates will also be given away. Individuals must be present at the prize program Sunday afternoon (April 25) to receive merchandise prizes.
More than 450 hook-up and tent campsites are available at Cachuma Lake on a first-come, first-served basis. Boats may be rented; reservations are suggested. Call (805) 688-4040.
On Saturday (April 24), children’s arts and crafts activities will be offered at the Nature Center. This is a free program. Visitors are encouraged to visit the Nature Center—the beneficiary of the Trout Derby’s revenue—which will be open free of charge from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday.
Prior to Mon., April 12 the registration fee is $25; $30 after that date. Children ages 10 and younger pay $10. To obtain a registration form via mail, call (805) 693-8381.
