ImagiMedia proves effective with DVDs

2004-04-09 / Business

ImagiMedia, based in Newbury Park, produces menus and navigation for hundreds of DVDs, from films to TV shows, children’s programs and specials, every year. In existence for 20 years, it’s a family business run by Rick Morton, president, his wife, Karen, office manager, and son Chris, vice president, who heads post-production and is the company’s video editor and chief author on DVDs.

"Authoring" is the term used to describe the process of creating the menus and animations viewers see at the front of a DVD before they begin to make their menu choices.

Rick Morton handles most of the computer graphics, animation and design and produces videos for corporate clients.

ImagiMedia recently completed a series of 80 DVDs for a large distribution company in Canada that included comedies, horror movies and World War II classics. They’ve also done a series of Olympic DVDs featuring highlights from 1920 to 2002.

One of the company’s biggest growth areas in the past year has been creating DVDs from clients’ VHS home movies.

"People want to be able to have the same convenience with their home movies as they have with the commercial DVDs they buy or rent. We allow them to do that . . . and protect their home memories as well, since DVDs will last up to about 100 years," said Chris Morton.

ImagiMedia is at 1090 Lawrence Drive, Ste. 105, Newbury Park. Reach them for more information at (805) 499-1221.
