John Steinbeck classic to run at Moorpark College

2004-03-05 / On The Town

Moorpark College will present a full mainstage production of John Steinbeck’s classic play "Of Mice and Men" from March 19 to March 27 at Moorpark College, 7075 Campus Road. Performances will be at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, March 19-20, 26-27, with a 1 p.m. matinee on Wed., March 24.

"Of Mice and Men" won a New York Drama Critics Award. Through the characters of George and Lennie, Steinbeck created "evocative, beautifully rendered portraits of outsiders struggling to understand their own unique places in the world," according to Katherine Lewis, Theatre Department Chair at Moorpark College.

"The best thing about directing this piece at Moorpark College is that students have such varied and distinctive backgrounds. I love the fact that actors who have professional credits are up there right beside actors who have never been on stage before. The shared learning experience on all levels is incredible," said instructor/director John Loprieno, a professional writer and television actor.

As part of a special community outreach program, Moorpark College has scheduled student matinees with group rates for local middle and high school students. "We want as many students as possible to experience this classic play and powerful production," said Lewis.

Ticket prices are $14, general admission, $8 students. For information on special school performances or reservations, call (805)378-1485.
