In addition to local voters approving the $145 million school bond known as Measure C4, the Simi Valley Unified School District will benefit from the statewide passage of Prop. 55.

The district is eligible for $62 million in state grant money because the state bond was approved. Both ballot measures had to pass in order for the school district to receive the maximum funding benefits.

"Oh that’s great!" said Marybeth Jacobsen, who spearheaded the campaign committee for Measure C4.

"That’s more money for Simi Valley schools ... If we were to repair everything we need to repair, it would cost more than $300 million. So we can put it to good use."

Simi Valley schools will be able to receive funds even though Prop. 55 failed in Ventura County. Almost 54 percent of county voters said no to the statewide education measure.
