Festival of original one-acts at Moorpark College

Moorpark College Studio Theatre will present a festival of one-act plays from Wed., April 2 through Sat., May 1 at the college, 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark. Admission ranges from $7 to $10 and tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at (805) 378-1485. The plays are not recommended for children. Except for the 1:30 p.m. performance on Wednesdays, April 21 and 28, all plays begin at 7:30 p.m. Show dates are Wed., April 21 through Sat., April 24 and Wed., April 28 through Sat., May 1.

The material varies greatly. All are original student works never previously performed. Among the works are:

"Next" co-written and co-directed by Sabrina Christophers of Simi Valley and Nick Vonch of Thousand Oaks, is a comic look at the casting process.

Dave Mason of Simi Valley is writer and director of "The Memoirs of Joe Collins," a comic vision of the film noir genre.

"Get Life Back" is a dark comedy exploring serious issues written and directed by Chris Hare of Simi Valley, and stars Juliet Lee of Westlake Village as the "anti-heroine."

Written and directed by Nick Pappas of Simi Valley, "Fourteenth Street" is a dour look at contemporary love co-starring Jeff Newman of Thousand Oaks.

Ron Oatman of Moorpark and Tom Rutzen of Newbury Park play the leads in "McNaughton’s Proposal." It is described as a short fantasy with a demonic political statement.

"Homecoming," written and directed by Ryan Ford of Simi Valley, stars Joey Koch of Westlake Village and is a drama about learning to accept life’s misfortunes and moving forward despite them.

An untitled play "funny but a little dark," directed by J. R. Ruiz of Thousand Oaks will star Michael Carpenter of Simi Valley as the anti-hero.

Ryan Willer of Newbury Park writes, directs and stars in "An Idiot’s Strategy to Find a Girlfriend," described as a surreal, weird comedy.
