Friendly frogs fraternize with family

LOOKING FOR A HANDOUT-These two Australian dumpy frogs have become favorite pets of the Stephenson family in Simi Valley. The one on the left is called "Humpty Dumpty" and the other is "Pretty Girl." Owner Kat Stephenson said the slimy amphibians make great pets for young children. Dumpy frogs like to dwell in trees and earned their nickname because of their plump, round shape. They cling to high surfaces with their sticky toe pads and absorb water through their skin instead of drinking it. Native frogs also are bountiful this time of the year.
